Being a little bit nervous about going to the dentist is a familiar feeling for many of us. For some, it is worse than others, and going to the dentist can become something of an ordeal. This could happen if you have had a bad or painful experience, or it can simply happen as you keep putting off the appointment and you build it up in your head.

The first thing to do is make an appointment. When you talk to the surgery, explain that you are a nervous patient and see what they say. If they are calm and reassuring, this is a good sign. Some surgeries will even have a nervous patient policy to help calm people down.

When you go to your appointment, take things slowly and take lots of deep breaths. Talk to your dentist in detail, as they will be able to help put you at ease.
